Why not join our u3a Art group and spend a relaxing afternoon just sketching or painting. We are a mixed ability group with members who have just taken up art, others who have started painting again because they now have some spare time and some experienced artists who just enjoy painting and sharing their skills and ideas. You can use whatever medium you wish to try. It is quite likely that somebody can give you tips on what to do. We have had professional artists giving us demonstrations, but most of the time we follow the u3a ethos of learning via helping and encouraging each other.

We provide refreshments and it will only cost you £2 per session. Sessions are weekly on Wednesdays 1.30 to 3.30pm and are held at 'Portskewett and Sudbrook Recreation Hall' by the playing fields in Portskewett.

2024

has been a really good year for our Art Group. Our numbers have grown and as a result we managed to fund some innovative ideas that we believe have enriched our group both in terms of our group aims of inclusivity and learning. The summer sessions were extended from 2 to 2.5 hours. We were also able to book demonstrations by 2 professional artists, one on Watercolour techniques and another on the importance of perspective, light and shade.

Another of our aims is to encourage our group members to exhibit their work in order that they could gain confidence in not only showing, but also talking about what they had achieved and how much they enjoy their art. It was good fun to interact with members and the general public for our u3a Open Day and at exhibitions at Caldicot Library and several Church Fairs and Bazaars. A positive outcome of those initiatives is the fact that people now know who we are and more importantly what our group is about.

2024 ended with our traditional Christmas Fish 'n' Chips and enthusiasm for 2025 with lots of opportunities for us to keep planning and develop our skills and our group together.
