The Striders Walking Group do a moderate to strenuous walk of around 5 to 7 miles.
Our aim is to get out into nature, absorb the smells, sound and visions in the terrain around us, and to be in good company with a chat about anything under the sky. It is a good way to keep fit and to improve physical and mental health.
Our walks are between 5 to 7 miles. The terrain can be anything from narrow, rough paths with stones and tree roots, to country tarmacked roads (it is difficult to avoid those). The pace is moderate to brisk but slows down on difficult terrain. We cross plenty of stiles and steep steps do not stop us. There are hills; in the Wye Valley the ascent can be up to 800 ft in one go.

We meet in The Choir car park @ 9am to share cars if needed. The start of a walk is seldom more than 15 miles from Caldicot. It starts about 9.45 am and we finish about 12.30 pm with a pub lunch.
Our walks are planned well in advance, recced by the leaders and circulated to our members. However, there might be last day changes dependent on the weather and the ground.
If you would like to try us out, please message our group leader: click on our Group convenor’s name on the top, and a contact form comes up.
We do require people to wear good sturdy walking shoes or boots, and that you are prepared for cold and wet weather. Walking poles can be an asset when walking in difficult terrain.
